A secret history

this is mostly just my thoughts going from chapter to chapter as I read it. Currently at the start of chapter 5.

Chapter 1 - 4

2023-07-01

Richard papen really is just taking chances and lying to get by, like it's dishonest. But we got to respect the hussle he puts into keeping up appearances. Especially when he arrives in Hampden and distances himself from the real upbringing he had had in California. He acts kinda like a dick, but he's doing his best at least, something that can't be said from other people in this book... idk who I'm pointing a finger at here, maybe the two dudes who drink and organise parties. Anyway, the way that he finds out about the greek classes and bullshits his way into it? Wild, also if the twins don't fuck this kid? this book wouldn't have been worth it.

On the topic of the other students in that greek lecture, I still don't know what all their names are, but we got Bunny (wild nickname, I think his acctuall name is like Edmund or something?). Then you got Charles, he's 1000% into Richard tbh, guy got bi-vibes, one part of the twins. And then you got Camilla who is also into Richard, like it's kinda inexplicable but honestly she probably sees a project she can fix, unlike the other dude (Francis) that is also in that course. The last, but not least is Henry, the rich quiet kid that also does drugs to get out of the rut of being in quiet life his dad dicated on him.

Anyway Bunny was far more likeable, before he was like rude to service staff, homophobic and also antisemetic? Like you went from a likable idiot with dyslexia, but he turns out to be a bigot? I'm happy he dies in like the opening of this book now. Should have been kicked off earlier tbh.

There is also the whole thing about Richard suspecting stuff is happening. But then just dismissing it out of hand, cause why would anyone be sneaking out of the townhouse Francis uses from his Aunt. But like we find out at the end of the fourth chapter that they in fact where sneaking around and they might have been running around doing rituals from ancient Greece. But yeah, they did kill a guy in the process, well Henry killed a guy or they all did. They where in a deep enough trance that they don't have accurate recounts of the events. But you know, a bunch of early 20's kids running around naked in the forests of upper Hampden? Vibes.
